Volunteer in this year’s deliberations committee and play a key role in selecting our scholarship and grant recipients.

Each year, Prism Foundation board members as well as volunteers from the LGBTQIA+ Asian & Pacific Islander community convene to review, discuss, and select the annual recipients of Prism Foundation’s scholarships and grants. We invite you as an invaluable community member to offer your own unique perspectives, experiences, and expertise to guide our decision.

Each year, two deliberations take place: one for scholarships and another for grants. You have the option of participating in one or both of these deliberations.

Being a deliberator will require a few commitments of your time. If interested, please review the full description of duties and timelines for each deliberation committee option below, and make sure you are able to commit to participating through that entire process.

Full Details & Timeline

A. Scholarship Deliberation Process

• Virtual kick-off meeting: Saturday, June 25, 2022 (0.5 hrs). Prism Foundation Philanthropy Committee will give a quick orientation to the deliberations process and assign you to a subgroup of deliberators.

• Independently review assigned applications (2-3 hrs). You will review a subset of scholarship applications and score them based on a metric we will provide.

• Subgroup meeting: Prior to Thursday, July 7, 2022 (1-2 hrs). You then meet with your subgroup on a date and time of your choosing to select a short list of the top applicants to submit to the Philanthropy Committee. A member of your subgroup will submit your group’s list of finalists to the Philanthropy Committee.

• Independently review finalist list (1-2 hrs). Once all deliberators have submitted their top applicants, the Philanthropy Committee will send out a new finalist list based on aggregated deliberator scores and have you review them before the selection meeting.

• Final selection meeting: Sunday, July 17, 2022 (4 hrs). In this meeting, all deliberators will meet virtually with the Philanthropy Committee to decide on which top applicants will be receiving scholarships and how much funding will be allocated to each scholarship.

B. Grant Deliberation Process

• Virtual kick-off meeting: TBA (0.5 hrs). Prism Foundation Philanthropy Chairs will give a quick orientation to the deliberations process and assign you a subset of grant applications to review.

• Independently review and score applications (2-3 hrs) and submit your scores to the Philanthropy Chairs.

• After all deliberators’ scores are submitted, the Philanthropy Chairs will share a finalist list of the top applications based on aggregated deliberator scores, and you will review these finalists prior to the selection meetings.

• Final selection meeting: TBA (4 hrs)
  Meet virtually with the Philanthropy Chairs and other deliberators to determine the order in which funds would be distributed starting from the top ranked applicants.
